About Vineyard Village at Home
Our Mission
The Mission of Vineyard Village at Home is to enable people to maintain their dignity, independence, freedom and safety as they age in their own homes.
How does it work?
As a member, you call our telephone number and leave a message asking for whatever service you need. Our staff will return the call. Most of the requests we receive are for transportation on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. We will arrange for a ride and let you know the name of the volunteer who will drive. We do not guarantee that we can fill all requests; we rely on the availability of our volunteers.
If you need a referral to a service provider like a plumber, electrician and the like, we will offer you some names of people we have vetted and suggest that you call them. Most of the providers on our list have offered a discount and have promised to give our members priority.
What is the history behind the organization’s origins?
In June 2006, a feasibility study determined that there is a the need on Martha’s Vineyard for a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), to provide seniors with a continuum of services and care on one campus. Currently, seniors who do not require a full nursing home situation (like Windemere) or an assisted living facility, but simply require some help in daily living functions, might make the heartbreaking decision to leave the Island in order to get the help they need. Vineyard Village at Home, a community-owned non-profit organization, has been created to stem the tide of these valued community members leaving the Island.
