 About
Vineyard Village at Home
Our
Mission
Our mission is to help older Vineyarders continue to live in their own
homes by providing them access to a wide range of volunteer, household,
health, social, and professional services that will ensure their safety
and comfort. To that end, we will work cooperatively with health and social
services on the Island, integrating their offerings into a single resource
for members, supplementing services as needed.
What
exactly is Vineyard Village at Home?
Think of us as a "one call does it all" sort of place. We put
our members in contact with a pool of volunteers and service providers
who are committed to helping their fellow Islanders. Our volunteers are
able to provide transportation to appointments, events, outings; help
around the house and garden; provide companionship. Our service providers
(electricians, plumbers, handymen, etc.) have all pledged to provide our
members top quality service (most at a discount) and to give our membership
work requests priority.
How
does it work?
It's simple. As a member, you call the Vineyard Village at Home phone
number. When you need some help at home or need a ride somewhere, just
give us a call. We find the right person for your needs in our referral
list. We arrange for that person to go to your house to take care of the
problem. Afterwards, we phone you to make sure everything went well.
What
is the history behind the organization's origins?
In June 2006, a feasibility study determined that there is a the need
on Martha's Vineyard for a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC),
to provide seniors with a continuum of services and care on one campus.
(What
is a CCRC?) Currently, seniors who do not require a
full nursing home situation (like Windemere) or an assisted living facility,
but simply require some help in daily living functions, might make the
heartbreaking decision to leave the Island in order to get the help they
need. As we work to develop an Island CCRC, Vineyard Village at Home ,
a community-owned non-profit organization, has been created to stem the
tide of these valued community members leaving the Island.
